The team reformed in February although they were still struggling with activity. Shortly after they joined the EPS Germany league as one of the favorites, this however didn't work out. With 27 penalty points the team has been removed from the EPS league and thus also from the organization as this exceeds the double of the maximum amount of penalty points required to get removed from an EPS league. The players did not make a comment on this yet, we have translated the clan's statement for you. Quote:
TBH: When two years ago we decided to add COD4 to our portfolio, there were many reasons for it. The euphoria and the dedication of the players, the constantly growing community, the interest from some companies and eventually the Pro-Series, etc. Unfortunately not much is left over now and that is why we feel impelled to take this step. The majority of the penalty points could have been avoided with some thoughtfulness, the other part can be led back to the unreliability of some of the players.

The Malaysian Call of Duty 4 scene

The Malaysian Call of Duty 4 community has always had a vision: to go international and be able to play overseas. Whether for fame or passion or just the money, we are striving hard to get to a playing field where we can compete against the best in the world. But I’ll bet, everyone who plays competitively shares this dream. I hope by the end of this article, you will have an idea of how COD4 in Malaysia has evolved from the early days until today. The PAM era In the early days of Call of Duty 4, the PAM mod was adapted by Malaysia as a competitive mod. However, the local community continually changed certain elements in the game according to developments in the competitive scene. The first tournament for COD4 in Malaysia was held in a cyber café (LAN center) called Tbun, located in Aman Suria. Many other cyber cafes did upgrades to their computers and held competitions to draw in the COD4 crowd. In the PAM days, it was not uncommon to see cyber cafes packed with COD4 players and teams having LAN scrims. Brian Chan, who is otherwise known as Esp. Death, was the sole coder during the PAM era in Malaysia. He worked to mod elements in the game such as weapon damage and perks. Such changes were decided through leader meetings where team captains of all competitive teams were invited to voice out their opinions about weapons, perks and etc. Later on, a league system was created and named ESPGL (note: this is NOT the same as the existing www.espgl.com). The league used a modified version of the original PAM402. The changes can be seen at this thread: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/858863. Long before Malaysia adopted Promod as the competitive mod, PAM was already been utilized to slowly introduce Promod to the community. Fearing that the drastic changes in appearance might put off most of the competitive and casual crowd, community leaders decided to slowly implement elements from Promod into PAM coding. However, the switch to Promod became inevitable when a later version of PAM made it impossible to change coding inside config files. The Promod era A major issue about PAM was the hassle when it came to setting up the mod. The problems arose when the config files were different. Even though the same mod was being used, two computers with different config files would make gameplay different, i.e. one player having sway when scoping and the other player without sway. Fortunately, no such problems arose after Promod was used. Malaysia switched to Promod approximately 2 years ago when the community made a huge decision to change the competitive mod from PAM to Promod. Since then, the local community has followed adjustments in the competitive mod up to Promod Live 2.04, which is the current version being used. The switch to Promod created an exodus of players away from competitive COD4. Ironically, this helped create a much more self-aware and self-sustaining community in Malaysia. Players still joined tournaments and online cups to show their passion for the game even though there was little or no prize money involved. The community in Malaysia also benefited from support by communities in the South East Asian region. Many teams in the region utilized Fragnetics to host dedicated servers with Promod Live for public usage. Teams from all over SEA also use these servers to organize scrims. Another huge effort that helped promote Promod in Asia was the Asian COD4 Championship (ACC). This league ran for 2 seasons in and brought together over 40 teams from each year. The ACC team was lead by Ammar Lulla, otherwise known as [JEDI*] aBc` from Singapore, and had members from all over South East Asia to help coordinate and oversee matches. Beyond Promod It might sound surprising, but at the spur of reaching for an international standard of play, the decision to change to Promod caused the COD4 community to fall into a recession. With both a lack of interest in Promod from the public and also organizers to hold competitions, the situation looked very bleak indeed. Ironically, and now I’ll have to quote from a movie “at the precipice, we change…” is perhaps the best way to describe how the scene has begun to move forward. The answer comes along with two names that are very close to home in COD4: Vita Nova and Crossfire Intel Challenge 7. With the Vita Nova ruleset and Crossfire Intel Challenge 7: Malaysia Edition (CIC7:ME), the scene is looking better than ever. Vita Nova has set foot on Malaysian soil and is starting to establish a structure in the COD4 scene. With not only plans for tournaments, but also the building of a team of community members who are committed to COD4’s revival and advancement, I’d certainly say that we are looking at a fresh start. We mustn’t leave out the other parties who have shown their support, time and again, for the E-Sports industry in Malaysia. The cyber cafes that we frequent, our universities, product distributors, organizers and also the government have pitched in their efforts to help the E-Sports industry grown. Perhaps now, with the community starting to get more and more involved with the industry, COD4 can rise to greener pastures. Hope you enjoyed the read. Signing off Ke Pang “Roti” Lew

Today the well known eSports organization Reason Gaming announced roster changes concerning its Call of Duty 4 lineup. The team recently recruited Jason 'lookzor' Perez O'Connor but this didn't seem to work as he was quickly removed from the roster. The team started playing with COD2 legend Michael 'Trigger' Sowa, who has already made a comeback in 2009 after he joined ChoZen which only lasted for a short spell. Trigger has been playing with the team for a few weeks and the team feels very confident playing with Trigger. The team will be attending SEC later this month. Quote:
Michael 'Trigger' Sowa: Here we go again! After i stopped playing 2 years ago and just did some really small attempts to get active again, I can now confirm that I am fully back. A month ago i started playing CoD4 with my german mates of TBH and also played alot of CB mixes with the UK community at the same time. After having a talk with duffer about possibly joining Reason and some games and talks with the other guys, we saw it was working out quite good and therefore decided to give it a try. I would like to thank my old team over at TBH for a great time playing the german EPS. I am happy to join an organisation like Reason Gaming which is a big name in the international scene for years now. I will do my best playing under the Reason tag and to win as many tournaments as possible with these crazy guys! See ya at the upcoming LAN events.
The Reason.COD4 roster is: Tom 'D1ablo' Newman Ryan 'Duffer' Duffy Danny 'SoCLoN' Perez O'Connor Chris 'Lighters' Lightburn Michael 'Trigger' Sowa Good luck to the team.

Vita Nova is on the lookout for more people willing and able to help out for a healthier and ever-developing CoD4 scene, particularly, we are seeking to cooperate with National Representatives. Building upon the Vita Nova ideal to promote CoD4 as an eSport throughout, one has to keep in mind that large international events are only one side to it. The activity and vitality of the CoD4 scene should also be tackled at a more micro-level stage: within the communities of individual countries. Due to language barriers, and the requirement of intricate knowledge of each national scene, VITA NOVA requires National Representatives for as many countries as possible. The main role of said representatives can generally be summarised in 'the cultivation of CoD4 in that particular region'. Roles involve the following: (depending on the time a person can make use of towards furthering our goals)
- Being active on community websites and forums of particular countries, promoting CoD4 and related events. - Familiarising one's local scene with the international community. - Giving out a helping hand in the administration of CoD4 events and tournaments, making sure they abide by any international ruleset. - Establishing contacts with local events (online or offline) organisers with the ultimate goal t convince them in picking up CoD4. - Establishing contacts with local Gaming organisations with the ultimate goal to convince them in picking up CoD4. - Convincing local teams to be more outward looking. - Establishing relationships with Shoutcasting and Streaming companies in one's country to support CoD4. - Being a middleman between VITA NOVA and one's local scene.
The current list of National Representatives stands as follows. Many countries boasting noteworthy scenes are missing. The inclusion of these countries within the scope of VITA NOVA is critical for the furthering of our endeavours. List of Current National Representatives:
AagaarD crashtec Falk fekuj gizzor ikers juv3nile karko mikk Mumma myzz paradox velvet
If anyone thinks he/she fills the criteria expected out of a National Representative, and would like to be part of this project, please write out an application, addressed towards: community[at]thevitanova.org Fill out the email as follows: - Name - Age - Country - Background this can include, gaming history/educational background - Expereince, what have you brought to the scene - What links you have/can provide with big organisations in the country you are from.
Swedes hit out at single ESWC spot

The Swedish Quake community has hit out at the new ESWC's decision to offer them just one qualifying spot at next month's Swedish qualifier. Previous ESWC events had offered two or more qualifying berths to previously successful nations in order to ensure a strong representation of the world's best players but the new ESWC have eschewed this method in favour of a simpler one country, one spot system. Sweden are the second most decorated nation in ESWC history - with a total of fifteen medals since 2003 - and can boast a strong contingent of QuakeLive stars, including Magnus "fox" Olsson, Sebastian "Spart1e" Siira and Alexander "Z4muZ" Ihrfors. Excello's Pelle "fazz" Söderman spoke out against the decision on esreality.com, arguing that "it should be 2-3 slots and only 1st get paid travels/hotel". The Swede, a previous 4th place finisher at ESWC, pointed the finger of blame at the new organisers, admitting he still had "big doubts about this ESWC organisation", even suggesting "it might just be good that [other Swedes] don't go there to get ripped off as well." The Swedish qualifying event will be held from the 5th to the 6th of June in the Game City LAN centre in Dreamhack host-city Jönköping. Gamers will have the chance to compete in Counter Strike 1.6, Guitar Hero 5 and Street Fighter 4 qualifiers as well as QuakeLive with the winners earning the chance to represent their country at the world finals in Disneyland, Paris later this year. Related ESWC.com Press Release (Swedish)

Hosted in Denmark last week, the TLD (The Last Danes) LAN event has come to a close with Team Infused coming out on top, as expected. Team Infused went into the event as clear favouritse, being ranked the 9th best Call of Duty 4 team in the monthly Cadred CoD4 rankings. However, tough competition in the form of Roskilde Ravens, VIP Gaming and XLBET was present to keep them on their toes. Coming through the group stages relatively easily, the primarily Danish side didn't lose a single map until they faced Roskilde Ravens in the Upperbracket Final, where they lost 9-13 on Crossfire after taking the first map in overtime. However, they kept their nerve and won 2-1 after a close game on Backloy. Knocked into the Lowerbracket, the Ravens faced off against VIP Gaming in the consolation final, which they breezed through 2-0 to earn themselves the chance to replay their rivals Team Infused. Unfortunately for them, Infused proved too strong and took the gold in only 1 map, winning themselves 3500 DKK (about €470). Grand Final - mp_backlot Team Infused 13:5 Roskilde Ravens (Holbek, PATR, AagaarD, Profft, K1lm0) (Guana, hiffer, adaigO, Jackson, Champ) The full prize distribution was as follows: Congratulations to all the winning teams! Related Team Infused

With the Steelseries eSports Challenge (SEC) coming up many teams are in need of an organization to support them. It seems that nwave have found a suitable team to represent them in Call of Duty 4 and more specificly at SEC, which is taking place at the end of this month. Nwave took in a Norwegian lineup called EMERGO, who will be trying to make a name for themself at SEC as they are still an upcoming team. Quote:
Rasmus 'jookarn' Glemmestad: We’re glad we were given this chance by the management over at Northwave. We will work hard to proove our selfs at SEC and the upcoming lans. Ken ‘Hitty’ Sandnes have said that he will be folding cod4 after SEC by different reasons. So the original man for the job Jonas ‘Hulk’ Øien will be stepping in as fulltime AK at that time. I would like to thank Northwave & n1ping.com for making this possible.
The nwave.COD4 roster consists of: Rasmus 'jookarn' Glemmestad Henrik 'Steam' Stene Jonas 'Impos' Lundblad Jonas 'Hulk' Øien Erik 'Appi' Andreassen Ken 'Hitty' Sandnes Best of luck to the team.

Dreamhack organisers have confirmed further details ahead of their summer 2010 event including a 50,000 SEK (€5,000) prize purse. The tournament will feature sixteen participants with five international qualifiers, three qualifiers from Dreamhack BYOC and seven further wildcards joining reigning champion Maciej "av3k" Krzykowski. So far only Pelle "fazz" Söderman has confirmed his spot - after winning the Norwegian qualifier at The Gathering - but the likes of Kevin "strenx" Baeza, Alessandro "stermy" Avallone and last year's finalist Alexand "Z4muZ" Ihrfors have all officially registered their interest and look likely to pick up wildcard spots. Last year's winter event saw a strong showing from Europe's top Quake players, with the absence of Shane "rapha" Hendrixson allowing Maciej "av3k" Krzykowski and Anton "Cooller" Singov in particular to shine. One player yet to appear on the wildcard signup list is Alexey "Cypher" Yanushevsky, who suffered a rare blip in the 2009 tournament but is still expected to compete. Running from June 19th to 21st, the 18th Dreamhack event to be held at the Elmia exhibition centre in Jönköping looks set to draw in the crowds once more to reaffirm it's title as "the world's biggest LAN party". Apparently the roster around Danish legend Timm 'ArcadioN' Henriksen has decided that this success was not reason enough to stick together and three players have been removed for more known names. Rasmus 'FaagaN' Thomsen, Finn 'karrigan' Andersen and Nicolaj 'Nuggi' Larsen, known from teams like AndThenSome, wooSai, Ab Ovo and Roskilde Ravens, are the new ones in the lineup.

Following the huge success of the first event, Gamersject LAN #2 is sure to be a success. With the tournament just days away next weekend, from the 9th-11th of April. Hosted in Zagreb, Croatia the LAN will feature Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4 and PES 2010 as its main tournament games, as well as Counterstrike: Source and DotA. The Call of Duty 4 tournament will be of particular merit, featuring many of the top names from eastern Europe. The new zeroPoint! side will be the hot favourites, although they will have to fight off tough competition from local sides team imex, gamersject and Unreal. From further afield are Digestive gaming, winner of last week's LAN in Ljubljana, as well as the talented Czech side, Team Confis. Both these teams will have a good chance of a podium finish. However, the tournament sign ups are not yet closed. At the last event, a mass flurry of teams paying in the last two days before the event nearly doubled the attendance, and the event organisers are hoping to repeat this spectacle. So why attend? Well, starting with the basics, there will be (as previously mentioned) a high standard of teams attending. Situated in the stylish HGspot Centar Utrine, the venue is well-equipped and in the centre of the bustling city of Zagreb. Fiscally speaking, the entrance fee is only €150 for a team of 5 and the variable prizepot looks set to reap some nice rewards indeed! With the last LAN also paying out thousands of euros in Hardware prizes in addition to the cash, the event is set to follow in the footsteps of the successful first LAN. As is common of most events, the variable prize-payout is based upon the number of teams attending the event.
European heavyweights France claimed a narrow win over Austria in 4v4 TDM at the Gamers Assembly LAN. fnatic teammates Kevin "strenx" Baeza and Pierre-Emeric "l1nkje" Portier combined to deliver victory in three maps for France in the opening European Nations Championship showmatch yesterday in Poitiers, France. The win sees the French emerge as one of the clear favourites ahead of the 2010 ENC season but Austria can take heart from a spirited showing as well as some moments of individual brilliance from 1v1 star Richard "noctis" Gansterer. DM6 proved a tight opener, with the French team's ability to lock down the quad damage in centre map giving them the edge throughout. Austria fought back on DM20, winning with close to a fifty frag margin, but lost out in the DM7 finale despite a late quad-inspired comeback. Both sides have already secured their place in the ENC regular season by direct invite and will hope the early practice pays off ahead of the upcoming group stages. DM6: 201 - 171 DM20: 157 - 201 DM7: 138 - 127 Related ESL.eu Demos

Sebastian "Spart1e" Siira denied Alexey "Cypher" Yanushevsky a weekend double at the death in the ZOTAC cup. The Serious-Gaming star was on the verge of a €200 payoff after defeating teammate Adrien "burnedd" Denis in Saturday's GDATA cup but lost out in an epic five map final versus the unpredictable Swede. "Spart1e" had a point to prove after dropping out of last month's top ten and looked in strong form as he progressed to the twenty sixth ZOTAC final without dropping a map. The win over "Cypher" - only his third ZOTAC title - will have boosted the under-fire fnatic player's confidence but bigger challenges undoubtedly lie ahead. A relatively low turnout from Europe's bigger names over the Easter weekend saw "burnedd" emerge as the main challenger but, despite impressing versus the likes of Felix "smoke" Pafel and Keine "Cny" Angabe, the young Belgian was bypassed by both "Cypher" and "Spart1e" without major difficulty. Former SK youngster Bogdan "bodzo" Mazur also looked good at times in the ZOTAC cup but it was his countryman, Szymon "Sting" Ozga, from Frag eXecutors who eventually got closest to the top spots. Signups for next week are already underway and can be found below. GDATA QuakeLive Cup #19 Final Standings Alexey "Cypher" Yanushevsky (€100) Adrien "burnedd" Denis 3rd/4th Keine "Cny" Angabe 3rd/4th Paul "kook" Fomkin ZOTAC QuakeLive Cup #26 Final Standings Sebastian "Spart1e" Siira (€100) Alexey "Cypher" Yanushevsky 3rd/4th Adrien "burnedd" Denis 3rd/4th Szymon "Sting" Ozga Related ZOTAC Cup GDATA Cup
